The Ortega OTM-FAMILYNT is a complete 3+3 set of classical guitar tuning machines, supplied as an original spare part for Ortega Family Series guitars and designed by Ortega to work with most classical guitars. It is a useful replacement when the original machine heads have become stiff, damaged or unreliable, without changing the familiar traditional appearance of the instrument.
The set uses chrome-plated baseplates with nylon rollers, black-plated worm shafts and white pearl-style buttons. The 14:1 gear ratio gives a sensible balance between quick string changes and controlled fine adjustment when tuning. Nylon rollers are the normal arrangement for classical guitar machine heads, allowing nylon strings to wind securely around the larger roller rather than the narrower metal post found on most steel-string guitars.
This is a 3+3 set, so it provides three tuners for each side of a slotted classical-style headstock. Although Ortega states that the set is designed to work with most classical guitars, replacement machine heads are not universally interchangeable.
