Northstar Littlestar NL6JP Short Scale Bass Guitar – Thru Purple

Short scale bass with a compact, familiar format

The Northstar Littlestar NL6JP is a compact Jazz-style bass for players who want a smaller instrument and a shorter reach. Its 760mm scale reduces the overall length and brings the frets closer together compared with a conventional long-scale bass, which can be useful for younger players or anyone who finds a standard bass cumbersome. The offset poplar body retains a recognisable electric-bass outline, while the Thru Purple finish gives this version its own identity. If size is a major part of the buying decision, the NL6JP deserves comparison with the other bass guitars in our range rather than being judged only on price.

What you actually get

Northstar specifies a poplar body, a maple neck with caramel stain and a Techwood fingerboard. The 760mm scale is the defining practical feature, because it changes the distance the fretting hand has to cover and makes the entire instrument more compact. The electronics are deliberately uncomplicated, centred around a single-coil soap-bar pickup, and the machine heads are chrome die-cast units. Northstar refers to the NL6JP as Jazz-style, while its formal specification table describes the body shape simply as offset. This is therefore best understood as a compact electric bass with familiar styling rather than a miniature copy of a particular full-size design. For a first instrument, that straightforward approach can make it a useful option alongside other beginner guitars.

Best suited to players who want the shorter scale

The NL6JP makes most sense for younger beginners, players with a shorter reach or musicians who deliberately prefer a compact short-scale bass. It can also be useful where portability matters, but the 760mm scale will feel different from a standard long-scale bass and should be chosen knowingly. Zebra Music is a family-run UK guitar shop established in 1983, and every guitar is checked before sale or dispatch.
